With 18 years of solid experience backed by hard-earned credentials, Dr. Elavazhagan is one of the most sought after faciomaxillary anaesthesiologists in Chennai. His key areas of specialization are procedural sedation, management of difficult airway, and fibro-optic endoscopy. As the head of the anaesthesia team in Meenakshi Cleft Craniofacial Centre, where he has practiced for 15 years, he has handled/handles roughly 500 cleft surgeries every year. Most of his patients are children with congenital syndromes like Curzon, Pierre Robin, Treachery Collins, and Parry–Romberg. Dr. Elavazhagan is a consulting faciomaxillary anaesthesiologist at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and General Hospital, Rajan Dental Institute, Face Clinics International, and Appasamy Hospital and has performed around 1250 oral surgical procedures and around 3500 procedural sedations till date.
Dr.Elavazhagan has performed a number of tracheal intubation (difficult airway) procedures in infants and adults as well as retrograde intubation, retro-molar intubation, sub-mental intubation and percutaneous tracheostomy procedures.
One of Dr.Elavazhagan’s major achievements in his medical career was when he along with a skilled team of dentists performed the world’s first endoscopic closure of a trachea- oesophageal fistula at Medindia Hospital in Chennai in 2012. His key areas of interest are faciomaxillary anesthesia, difficult airway management, paediatric anaesthesia, and conscious sedation in the dental chair.
Dr.Elavazhagan has been invited to present scientific papers in his field across Tamil Nadu as well as invited as a guest lecturer to throw light on subjects like management of pediatric difficult airway, anaesthesia outside the operating room, conscious sedation in dental procedures, and paediatric sedation myths and facts.
He has authored and co authored a number of articles for various medical journals. Dr.Elavazhagan has also been a part of a number of procedural demonstrations and workshops on difficult airway management and wisdom tooth removal under conscious sedation.
